Teach Operator Skills with a Hands On Trainer Unit

Hands On Trainer Units Students Learning

Polaris Hands On Trainer (HOT) Units give new operators the opportunity to learn, practice, and certify on real-world operator skills in a safe, yet realistic industrial environment. HOT units are purpose-built to support Process Technology (PTEC) and Basic Operator Training (BOT) requirements using industrial equipment, piping, and instrumentation. Each unit comes with detailed operating manuals, procedures, and structured training exercises.

HOT Units Help Build Knowledge and Skills

Operators learn to perform:

  • Startup, shutdown, and emergency procedures
  • Equipment and process troubleshooting
  • Effective rounds and shift handover
  • Equipment lineups
  • Energy isolation (LOTO) of equipment and systems

Each Hands-On Trainer (HOT) unit is manufactured to ASME standards with steel, not PVC, using state-of-the-art industrial components and a fully functional DCS. The durable design ensures the unit provides reliable service in indoor or outdoor environments.

Hands On Trainer Curriculum and Training Aids

Hands On Trainer Unit from Polaris with Students

The Polaris HOT units come with comprehensive training materials including:

  • Process and control descriptions
  • Operating procedures (pre-startup/startup, shutdown, emergency)
  • Equipment identification
  • Equipment lineups
  • Energy isolation
  • Round sheets

Additional training aids are available to support the HOT models:

Using the simulator and virtual field operator, students familiarize themselves with the operation of the Hands-On-Training (HOT) unit, practice procedures, and perform troubleshooting, before going out to work on the actual process unit while Process Equipment Animations help learners visualize the internal workings of the equipment, supplementing the curriculum for the HOT units.
